Days of Pain, and a New Toy

I do have a doodle that I created with the new Aquatense pencils, but I don't have my camera with me right now, so you will have to wait until next time....hope you can wait!

I had a very good day on Wednesday, then I took a drastic turn for the worst.  My migraines were out of control.  I've tried very had to keep up with creating something every day, but I must say, on Thursday (or was it Friday?, days have been running together), I couldn't stand the light enough to get out of the dark.  Since then my doctors have been working with my medication, trying to get my cerebrospinal fluid pressure level.  It has been a struggle...but we're working on it.

My wedding anniversary was on Saturday.  We had reservations at a nice seafood restaurant in town, but instead we had a bed picnic.  Stuart went to PF Chang's and picked up dinner for us (so glad they have a gluten free menu!)  I may not have felt great all day, but it was very nice to just spend down time with my beloved.  (I even wrote him a love letter, complete with pretty little doodles along the edges.)

I was surprised by my gift.  A Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet.  This is a wonderful drawing tablet that I can hook up to my computer, it comes with different programs, and I can use it with Photoshop.   I'm having a ball playing with it, but I it will never replace my physical art supplies.  I love the tactile feelings, the smell, simply the sensation.

Here are some things I've been doing as I learn how to use the tablet.  I'm having a ball.
This part of the program taught me how to manipulate a photo.
As you can see, now Mona Lisa is really an alien, and the real reason she's smiling is because she was given flowers and pearls.

This is my first "drawing" on the pad.  I'm using a program I've never tried before, and have a lot to learn.  I kind of like this lady.  With her hair blowing in the wind, and her eyes are so vivid...interesting.

This is a floral design I did.  It's a very interesting program.  Looks like it continued to draw off the page...humm.

This is my favorite design that I've made so far.  I love trees.  I think this is just cool!
Next time more Aquatense creations, and perhaps a collage I'm working on.

  1. Mona Lisa is FINALLY living up to her name and MOANING! Your creations are so fun. Tree is wonderful.
Is it easier when you have a migraine to maneuver the computer than the & pencils, paint etc.

  2. Happy Anniversary! I'm sorry you weren't feeling well, but your bed picnic sounds like fun! The chicken lettuce wraps are my favorite (and we always get them gluten free so my mother in law who has celiac disease can eat them too) Yum!

It looks like you're having fun with your bamboo tablet - What program are you using to learn it? I recently got one too, but I have been too intimidated to try it :)

    Take care...

p.s. I totally agree with your post about the pain scale... One person's 2 might be another person's 5. Your photos are really powerful illustrations of your pain levels.

  3. Hi Kristin,
All the above illustrations were done with the Livebrush program. When you dock your Bamboo Pad a little black box will show up with some options. if you click on the + sign, it will show you all kinds of things you can use. The Livebrush has to be installed on your computer, but most of the other things don't (I'm playing Mahjong on it)
I also have Photoshop CS4 (gift from a very sweet friend) and mine came with Photoshop Elements 8 - I've played around with it with both of those, but I don't notice that they pick up the pressure of the pen like the other program does.

Thank you about the pain levels post. Think I may need to put a couple more in there...but I'm taking them to the doctor tomorrow.

Let me know how you are learning things on the pad.

    take care,
    wendy

  4. Judith, Love the comment about Moana Lisa! ha!

Some times it's easier on the computer when I'm having a very sensitive day to scents. Even the smell of paper can make me feel icky.

As I said, computer art will never replace my fine art, but sometimes, it is better because of the smells, and I can stay in one place.
If I use a black background, with the lights low, it's even easier.
    so yeah, I guess so.
    Sometimes, I can't open my eyes, but them I'm planning...well sometimes...often I'm just Moaning...like Lisa.

  5. Hi Wendy?
    Welcome to EDM!
Glad you de-lurked. I love my Bamboo too, but I do agree it can never replace the real thing.

  6. You are an inspiration! I, too, find art is a "flower among the weeds" and quite therapeutic. It's a great thing to do when you can. I suggest that you don't allow yourself to feel pressured to do it. I think Mona has more character than ever, and I love the tree! Welcome to EDM.

  7. Dan,
{{Aw Shucks}} You made me smile.
I do want to say, I don't feel pressured, but I haven't had a goal in a long time...other than waking up, taking meds, trying to do anything else...
Now, having this goal..it has given me something to strive for...yes, some days I may not be able to complete it...but, I'm going to try..and keep trying.

    Thank you for the welcome.
